The winning image
French photographer Nicolas Lefaudeux has been named Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020 with this extraordinary "illusory" image of the Andromeda Galaxy.
Comedian Jon Culshaw, a regular guest on The Sky at Night and one of the competition's judges, said that the image "captured the imagination of many of the judges right from the start."
"It's toying with our perceptions here," Culshaw said, "and it really deserves its overall winning status."
