Ever wanted a museum to yourself? We're throwing open the doors to Astronomers Take Over at the National Maritime Museum for a special evening view, for one night only.
This is specifically for young people, and although it's normally paid entry, this is your chance to come and enjoy the experience free of charge!
Come and meet real astronomers who are just as obsessed with space as you are... or if you just want to learn more, those with a beginner-level interest in astronomy are welcome too!
It's completely free. All you need to bring is curiosity.
For more information, read up about Astronomers Take Over here.
Astronomers Take Over is usually a paid, all-ages experience. This free evening is a one-off, specifically for young audiences.
What will you be doing?
In Astronomers Take Over, you can explore at your own pace, meet real astronomers, try your hand at landing a Mars rover, use a starlight splitter, and step inside an awe-inspiring 'galaxy box' to find out just how amazing our Universe is.
The planetarium show will be The Night Sky, a classic guide to the night sky presented live by an astronomer.
Explore the night sky as it appears on the day of your visit, learn about the locations of various astronomical objects and how to spot them, and plan for what's coming up later in the season. Every day (or night!) is slightly different, so the content is constantly changing. It's hosted by one of our astronomers and mapped to the actual sky above Greenwich that night.
You'll get the chance to experience both elements, so nobody misses out.
There's only 50 tickets available and you'll split into two groups so everyone gets time in the gallery and planetarium show.
Workshop FAQs
Do I need to come with an adult?
No, this workshop is designed for young people between the ages of 13-17 to attend independently.
Young people will need to ask a parent or guardian to complete the sign-up form if they are under 18, providing two emergency contact details and consent to attend from a parent or guardian.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself, your curiosity, and your ticket. No experience with astronomy needed!
I have a question - who do I contact?
If you have a question about the session, please email youngpeople@rmg.co.uk, or you can ask to arrange a call, or text: 07907 711159.
Can I bring a friend?
Of course! Just make sure they book a free ticket too, so we've got their parent/guardian's permission too.
