A general view the town of Levuka, Ovalau, Fiji

A view from the hills around the town of Levuka, looking down into the settlement between the foot of the hills and the sea. Totogo Creek can be seen at the bottom of the photograph separating the European buildings along the waterfront from the more traditional Fijian thatched 'bure' houses.

The photograph is captioned 'Levuka, Ovalau. Fiji Group'.

According to Dr R. W. Coppinger's account, HMS Alert arrived at Levuka on 18 September and departed for Suva on 11 October 1880.
