Sketch of HMS 'Leander' in Portsmouth harbour after the bombardment of Algiers

No. 13 of 73 (PAI0889 - PAI0961)

Drawing inscribed in the lower right 'Leander after the Battle of Algiers - /Portsmouth harbour'.

The bombardment of Algiers had taken place on 27 August 1816 and so it is likely that Schetky made this drawing in the latter part of the year. HMS 'Leander' had been commanded by Captain Edward Chetham and suffered severe damage to her hull.
