HMS 'Active', 38-guns, was launched at Chatham in 14 December 1799 and was in service mainly in the Mediterranean until 1824 when she was put into Ordinary at Portsmouth. In 1819 she was fitted with man-powered paddles, an experimental design by Lieutenant Burton.
