War diary of Frederick Arthur Buckley (Volume 1), August 1914-November 1914.

Diary kept by Frederick Arthur Buckley, 2 August to 12 November 1914. During this period Buckley was a gunnery lieutenant on the battleship HMS VENERABLE (1899), part of the Channel Fleet based at Portland. The diary records target practice and patrols in the English Channel, and the naval bombardment of German positions in the Nieuport area of Belgium. Sketches and items of ephemera are included.
