The Saturday Art Club is part of the National Saturday Club network. It is a free weekly creative drop-in event for young people aged 13-16 who live or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Sessions take place from 10am-1pm every Saturday at the National Maritime Museum, commencing in October 2023.

This is a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills, make new friends, achieve a Bronze Art Award and showcase your artwork in a national exhibition!

As a Club member you will attend weekly Saturday classes led by expert tutors in your local community, and take part in national events throughout the year including visits to leading cultural institutions, Masterclasses with industry, a Summer Show exhibition of all Club members’ work at London’s prestigious Somerset House, and a Graduation Ceremony. A remarkable national network of further education, higher education, the cultural sector, and industry works together in partnership to deliver these enriching extracurricular activities.

What does it involve?

Now in its sixth year, the club offers FREE Saturday classes from October to April. The weekly workshops will be facilitated by a professional artist who will support you to develop new skills in critical thinking and creative practice.

You will have opportunities to work across different artistic disciplines from printmaking and textiles to film and animation, exhibit your work, facilitate workshops, visit other galleries and gain an accredited Bronze Arts Award.

Club members will also take part in three national events:

The London Visit, in which club members take part in a pop-up self-portrait exhibition and visit the capital’s museums and galleries
A masterclass with a leading creative industry professional
The Summer Show where all club members exhibit their work in an exhibition in Somerset House, London

Does it take place every Saturday?

The club takes place every Saturday in the National Maritime Museum from 10am to 1pm during autumn, winter and spring terms only.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials will be provided. You’re welcome to come along by yourself or bring some friends.

Do I need to attend every session?

To get the most out of each session, it is important to come on time and regularly.
