Postcard with a signed photographic portrait of C.A. Turnbull [Charles Allan Turnbull] in Marconi Company uniform, dated 16 January 1916 [1917].

Charles Allan Turnbull, born in Hornsey, London, in 1893. A note in ink on the reverse of the card records he was a wireless operator on the merchant vessel MOUNT TEMPLE (1901), The Canadian Pacific Railway Co., captured and sunk in the Atlantic by the German raider MOEWE on 6 December 1916. The portrait shows him during internment at the officers camp at Wahmbeck in Germany.
