Postcard with a photographic portrait of James Young in Marconi Company uniform.

James Young, born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1887, was a wireless operator on the merchant vessel GEORGIC (1895), Oceanic Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., captured and sunk by the German raider MOEWE off Newfoundland on 10 December 1916. The portrait shows him during internment at the officers camp at Wahmbeck in Germany.

The postcard is unused, but the reverse is addressed to ‘Miss Laing, Market Place, Belford, Northumberland, England’.
