Edward Alan Godsell, born at Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, in 1898, was a wireless operator on the merchant vessel GEORGIC (1895), Oceanic Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., captured and sunk by the German raider MOEWE off Newfoundland on 10 December 1916. The portrait shows him outside a building at the Krefeld internment camp in Germany.
