Postcard with a signed photographic portrait of ‘Holly’ [Hubert John Thomas Holland] in uniform, dated 21 February 1918.

Hubert John Thomas Holland, born in London in 1892, was second officer on the merchant vessel BRECKNOCKSHIRE (1917), Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., captured and sunk by the German raider MOEWE off Brazil on 15 February 1917. The portrait shows him during internment at the officers camp at Wahmbeck in Germany.

The reverse of the postcard has a note in ink ‘H.J. Holland, 2nd officer, R.M.S.P. Coy., London, late s/s Brecknockshire’.
