H.M.S. Lyra Captn Basil Hall
A graphite drawing of the ‘Lyra’ in starboard quarter view. Birds in flight above the fore mast. Vague mountains at left background. Two-masted ship and land at right background. Vignette format. Signed and dated ‘CWB 1818.’ at lower left of drawn surface. Part of an album of ‘sketches from memory’ by C.W. Browne, made Jan-Feb 1818.
Inscribed on mount: ‘H.M.S. Lyra, Capt. Basil Hall’. Captain Basil Hall was appointed to the command of the ‘Lyra’ on 23 October 1815. He remained her captain until she returned to Portsmouth at the end of 1817. She was sold in 1818.
