'N. Coast of Sumatra'

Inscribed in ink by the artist, as title, this is a panoramic fold-out on three joined sheets of which the right one is fixed to page 23 (verso) in Fanshawe's West Indies, North American and Borneo scrapbook (ZBA4855). It shows a profile of the north coast of Sumatra, also inscribed across the top with locations shown left to right: 'Golden Mountain/ 6900 ft', 'Pulo Malora', 'Achen Head', 'Middle Island', 'Pulo Brasse', 'Pulo Way'. The location is looking south near the north of the island over the province of Aceh (formerly Achin or Achen): the Golden Mountain is the old mariner's name for the mountain locally called Yamuria, in the range of volcanic origin to the north and east of Aceh city and the flatter lands to their south.
