Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition

Astrophotographers of all skill levels are invited to submit their best images to the Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2018. The 2018 adult and young competitions are open for entries from Monday 15 January until midday (GMT) 9 March 2018.

Entrants can submit up to 10 images for the chance to win cash prizes, their winning image displayed in an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, a year’s subscription to Sky at Night magazine, and a copy of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019 publication.

You can be inspired by the 2017 winning images in our free exhibition at the Royal Observatory until 22 July 2018.

How to apply

  • It is free to enter via our online entry site:
  • If you are new to the competition, you’ll need to register and set up a competition account.
  • The Adult competition is open to anyone aged 16 and over, and the Young competition is open to anyone under 16.
  • You may submit a total of 10 images.
  • The overall winner's prize across all Adult categories is £10,000.
