Take advantage of the Royal Observatory's late summer openings and learn about our closest celestial neighbour on the evenings of the July and August full moons.

  • See Luke Jerram's new installation Mirror Moon, created using highly accurate NASA data, and run your fingers over the craters, mare and mountains of the Moon.
  • Find out about the history of observing and mapping the Moon from the Royal Observatory during a special Lunar Tour, taking place at 5.30pm.
  • Enjoy lunar-themed talks in front of Mirror Moon.

Important information

Please note that you must also purchase Royal Observatory admission to see Mirror Moon and attend the tour and talks.

Mirror Moon and talks are included with the entry price, while the Lunar Tour costs £5 for adults, £3.50 for students and £2.50 for children.

All you need to know

  • The Lunar Tour takes place at 5.30pm and lasts between 45 minutes to an hour
  • The tour meeting point is at Mirror Moon in the Meridian Courtyard
  • Age recommendation: 7+
  • Please note: this tour is not step-free
  • The Royal Observatory will shut at 7pm, so please make sure to leave enough time to explore the Observatory at your own pace before the tour and talks start

Headsets

You will be provided with an adjustable audio headset. These can be used alongside hearing aids, and tour guides can use an induction loop upon request. Please note that children under 4 will not be provided with headsets.
