Journal kept on HMS ANTRIM, 1914 - 1915
Journal covering Captain Gordon Reinhold Bald's service in HMS ANTRIM. The journal covers his thoughts on news from the Battle of the Falklands, the sinkings of U-boats and contains a detailed account of an attack on SMS BLUCHER at the Battle of Dogger Bank. This includes attempts by British destroyers to rescue German sailors before they were driven off by German Zeppelins who assumed SMS BLUCHER was British as Royal Navy ships were attempting to assist. It also contains a synopsis of submarine attacks on the 3rd cruiser squadron, including HMS BIRMINGHAM and HMS NOTTINGHAM, between 19 June and 20 June 1915 with plan of damage.
