A view from the mock-up of the poop deck of HMS 'Victory' in the Great National Panorama building depicting the Battle of Trafalgar at the moment Lord Nelson was shot on the quarterdeck, Royal Naval Exhibition, Chelsea. The centre of the painted panorama cloth behind, by Chevalier Philipp Fleischer, shows the moment Nelson fell after receiving the French bullet fired from from 'Redoutable', depicted on the right with HMS 'Temeraire' outboard of it. The poop deck is strewn with ropes, blocks and canvas mimicking the state of the deck during the battle.
The circular canvas panting was 310 feet round and 32 feet 6 inches high. It was privately own by Herr Thiem and had been displayed at Edinburgh and Manchester before being displayed at Chelsea. Entry was 6d (six old pence/ 2.5p).
