Tube packaging

A cardboard tube which is the packaging for AST1029.7.

This tube comes from a 15-drawer cabinet found in the Herschel family home in the 1950s. Collectively the contents of this and a similar cabinet seems to suggest that they were used by successive generations of the family to store specimens, material and apparatus for carrying out experiments.

The tube into which the perpetual calendar and spirit level fit is labelled: 'Col Herschel's Almanack and also a spirit level tube'. Col. John Herschel was a Royal Engineer stationed in India from 1856.
