Small square glass bottle with a glass stopper that is covered with a piece of leather with string wrapped round. Biege powder inside. Label reads "Ipecacuanah". Pulvered root of Ipecacuanha (a Brazilian root). Used as emetic (to induce vomiting) when somebody had eaten too much or had been posioned. Was also used in typhoid fever. Ipecac syrup is still available in the USA, both as a nonprescription product and as an FDA-approved prescription product.
