F.S.D. Esdaile box
A black laquered box with a gold bird and foliage on the outside of the hinged lid. An inscription in gold letters inside the lide reads: 'In loving memory of F.S.D. ESDAILE who died of wounds received in action at TIEN-TSIN JULY 7TH 1900 Gone but not forgotten.' Containing twenty-seven items including an examination paper: 'Examination of Junior Officers Afloat dated June 1900,' Esdaile's card and a ticket for a theatrical performance dated April 27th 1900, one pair of chop sticks with ivory handles, and other Chinese-made metal items - hairpins, jewellery and metalwork.
