Cutty Sark continues to inspire poets across the globe and recently the ship was sent the following poem by Peter Howes, an admirer of the ship from Australia.
The Sleeping Clipper
By Peter Howes, 2015
Walk her deck with gentle tread
Beneath the lofty canvas spread
Sound of wind and surging water
She braves a sea from any quarter
Mastheads reeling, a press of sail
Salt spray upon topgallant rail.
Read of her deeds, then life
Did slow. Now resting in
A golden glow.
Cutty Sark, from a firey tangle
Still cared for
By her guarding angel
