Step into a world of imagination and discovery in this cutting-edge screening and performance of The Prophets Lanthorn: Mirrored in the black water, a triumph of light, created by artist, filmmaker and lecturer Blu Smith.
Bringing together archival footage with liquid light techniques, the artwork reimagines life on board the Afro-Arabian ship, Triumph of Righteousness. It draws inspiration from the memoirs and photographs of Alan Villiers, who sailed on the vessel in the 1930s, and whose work is part of Royal Museums Greenwich’s collection.
Developed during Blu’s Ocean Court Residency at the Museum – a new initiative exploring and reinterpreting our connection to the ocean – the piece was created in collaboration with arts organisation The Collective Makers.
Prepare for an immersive evening of storytelling, large-scale projections and live music in the Ocean Court space at the National Maritime Museum.

About the Ocean Court Residency
"In recreating the Ocean Court space at the Museum, we wanted to bring in a number of projects working with creative practitioners and scientists to look at how we could experiment in using the space for performances and for reinterpreting our connection to the ocean."
Sarah Lockwood, Head of Engagement, Royal Museums Greenwich
