How to find us
Finding us is easy

Enjoy your trip to Greenwich by rail or river, it takes no time at all. We're just 8 minutes from central London by rail, 20 minutes by DLR, or make the journey part of the fun and arrive by boat. 

For Greenwich town centre, the nearest stations are:

  • Cutty Sark DLR
  • Greenwich rail station and Maze Hill rail station
  • Greenwich Pier

Oyster cards can be used at all local stations and on buses. All our museums are within easy walking distance of each other, and only a short walk from the stations, within historic Greenwich and Royal Greenwich Park.

Getting to the Royal Observatory & Planetarium

Full address: Royal Observatory, Blackheath Avenue, Greenwich SE10 8XJ

The Royal Observatory is at the top of the hill in Royal Greenwich Park, there is a wheelchair-accessible route, but please note it is uphill and fairly steep.  Once at the top you will be rewarded with stunning views of the city of London skyline and River Thames.  

  • Greenwich DLR/rail (20 minute walk via King William Walk)
  • Cutty Sark DLR (15 minute walk via King William Walk)
  • Maze Hill rail station (15 minute walk via Park Vista)
  • Blackheath rail station (20 minute walk across the heath)

You can reach us from central London via direct routes by Cannon Street and London Bridge rail or Bank DLR

Accessible DLR and rail travel

Cutty Sark DLR station has step-free access. Greenwich and Maze Hill rail station platforms have step free access via ramp, lifts or underpass. The ticket offices and car parks at these stations are also step free.

Accessible river travel

The Thames Clipper service provides boarding ramps for wheelchair users. Guide and assistance dogs are also welcome on board without charge.

Greenwich Pier has installed Europe's first Ramp Rider greatly improving access for wheelchair users getting on and off boats at Greenwich at low tide. The pier is situated next to the Cutty Sark and it is just five minutes’ walk to the National Maritime Museum from the river.

Bus travel to the Royal Observatory and Planetarium

The following buses stop near the Royal Observatory Greenwich and Peter Harrison Planetarium: Routes 53, 54, 202 and 380.

Accessible parking

Museum parking for visitors with disabilities

Limited pre-booked spaces are available for disabled visitors in the Museum car park. Please pre-book, otherwise we cannot guarantee a place.

Alternative parking in Greenwich

Parking in Greenwich is limited, particularly at weekends. There are off-street pay-and-display car parks in Greenwich Park (run by the Royal Parks; 250 spaces, maximum 4 hours).

The Royal Borough of Greenwich operates car parks nearby in Park Row and Burney Street. Usual exemptions apply for Blue Badge holders.

Cycling to our museums

Greenwich is on the National Cycle Network and can be reached by traffic-free routes through parks alongside the rivers Thames, Lea and Ravensbourne.

Cycle racks are provided in the National Maritime Museum car park in Park Row and there are cycle paths in Greenwich Park for access to the Royal Observatory.

Coach parking for the Royal Observatory & Planetarium

There is free coach parking adjacent to the A2 in Blackheath at Charlton Way Coach Park which is close to the Royal Observatory via a short walk through the Blackheath gate of Greenwich Park.  

There are also public toilets just inside this gate.
