Comprises handwritten contemporary copies of letters relating to the court martial and execution of Admiral John Byng. The content includes the judgement, the appeal to Parliament, a consideration of the reasons for executing Admiral Byng, and character references for him. Includes a letter from Voltaire to Admiral Byng, 2 January 1757 and letter from the Duc de Richelieu to Voltaire seeking mercy for Byng, 26 December 1756.
