A Skua Gull regurgitating food for their chick

A detailed photograph of a Skua Gull regurgitating food in front of their chick on the fine gravel shore.

The print has a typed caption: 'Skua gull feeding chick, disgorging. Jan 6th 1911.'

Ponting described the dangers of taking photographs of the gulls: 'Photography had to be done despite such discomforts [being beaten by wings and vomited on], and though I protected myself with canvas and constant watchfulness, I was more than once the victim of this revolting habit...' (pages 217-218).
