Detail of the sea-ice breaking up

A detail study of the sea ice breaking up in McMurdo Sound along the coast of Ross Island. Three Skua Gulls have been purposely placed in the composition through the use of seal skins to attract them to specific places.

The print has a typed caption: 'Detail of sea-ice breaking up. Jan. 9th 1911.'
