Can I hire the Grounds for an outdoor event?
Yes, you can hire our Grounds for an outdoor event. We hire on a per-lawn, per-day basis, with up to six lawns available for hire. Our Grounds are hired in conjunction with at least one of our museums - Queen's House or the National Maritime Museum.
How large an event can I have during the daytime?
As the Grounds are open to the public during the daytime, we can offer lawn hire for events for up to 150 people during the daytime.
What is the largest event I can have on the Grounds?
We can offer Grounds hire for events for up to 5000 guests. This is only possible in the evening, once our museums are closed to the public. Events for above 1000 guests are assessed by the museum on a case-by-case basis.
What is the largest capacity for a seated dinner on the Grounds?
On the north-west lawn, we can accommodate a marquee to host up to 1000 people for a seated dinner. On our Colonnades, we can host up to 120 people for a seated dinner without the need for a marquee.
Can I have a conference on the Grounds?
Yes, on our north-west lawn we can accommodate a marquee large enough for 1500 seated theatre style, allowing for large scale conferences and performances.
Can I build a marquee on the Grounds?
Yes, we work with two approved marquee suppliers who can build bespoke structures on our Grounds. Marquee builds are only possible in conjunction with the hire of one of our museums. Marquee builds or other event construction on our grounds require the client to arrange planning permission directly with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Can I hire the lawns on their own?
No, we combine lawn hire with one of our museums - either Queen's House or the National Maritime Museum - to allow for wet weather locations and the use of facilities.
Do you have any restrictions for events on the Grounds?
Yes, our Grounds are part of a Scheduled Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. This means we have restrictions in place for the continued preservation of our site. These include but are not limited to:
- Construction on our site requires planning permission
- Grounds events must adhere to a noise limit of 65 decibels 1 metre away from sensitive properties
- No ball games or activities requiring staking can take place onsite
- Vehicles cannot drive on the grass, unless the grass is protected with metal trackway
- Lawn hire and marquee builds are only possible in conjunction with the hire of one of our museums
Is there a noise limit in place for events on the Grounds?
Yes, Grounds events must adhere to a noise limit of 65 decibels 1 metre away from sensitive properties.
Can I have fireworks or drones during my event?
Yes, our Grounds are suitable for fireworks and drone shows. We work with approved suppliers for these activities; please talk to us about your requirements and we can share further details.
Can I bring my own suppliers?
No, we work with an approved list of suppliers for all catering, production, floristry, fireworks, drones and marquee builds, and we offer a recommended list of suppliers for photography, entertainment, event planning and other event enhancements. We know that exceptional suppliers make exceptional events and we work tirelessly to provide our clients with suppliers that can bring creativity, functionality and precision to your event.
Can I fly my drone on the Grounds?
We have restrictions in place for drone usage and drone filming/photography on our site. Drones can only fly once our Grounds are closed to the public and subject to insurance, licences, risk assessments and method statements. Please speak to us about your requirements for further information.
Can I land a helicopter on the Grounds?
Yes, some of our Grounds are CAA-approved landing sites for helicopters, subject to insurance, licences, risk assessments and method statements. Please speak to us about your requirements for further information.
