For the circumstances of Fanshawe and the 'Daphne', shown at anchor here, being at Mazatlan on the Mexican Pacific coast (15 August- 9 October 1850), see PAI4648. In 1879 a lighthouse (El Faro) was built on the conical hill shown. Fanshawe did three views at Mazatlan in 1850 (PAI4648 - PAI4650) and one in 1851 (PAI4699).
