Looking down from the balloon across the plateau towards 'Discovery' (1901).

A view from the balloon looking back towards the 'Discovery' (1901), a research ship, alongside the ice shelf in Balloon Bight. The tether of the balloon can be seen on the left descending to land. The shadow of the balloon is also evident on the ice below. The dark patch in the middle distance may be the area that the balloon was unpacked and inflated. Some crew can be seen as small dots on the landscape.
