Around the edge of the chart are the names Weddell, Ross, Enderby and Victoria, who had either sponsored or conducted exploration in the region.

Weddell - James Weddell was the captain of the sealing ship 'Jane'. He explored the Antarctic region between 1820 and 1823.
Enderby - Enderby Brothers were the owners of the 'Tula'. Captain John Briscoe circumnavigated Antarctica between 1831-2.
Ross - James Clark Ross, who had explored Antarctica between 1839-1843 in 'Erebus' and Terror'
