Neptune; Warship; 98 gun
Scale: Unknown. A model of the Royal Naval warship, Neptune, made in plaster with wood, metal, paper, and cotton fittings which has been realistically painted. The model depicts the vessel at 1.40pm on 21st October 1805 at the height of the Battle of Trafalgar and the ship is shown with damage sustained in the battle. The ship is three masted and ship rigged on all three masts with sets sails, showing shot damage. Dark grey smoke is billowing from the deck in several places. A white ensign is flying from the peak of the gaff and two union flags are flying, one from a halliard between the fore and mainmast, the other from a halliard rigged between the jib boom and foremast. The foremast has lost all its sails and the main mast is only flying one sail. The hull is painted black with white stripes along the three gun decks, white on the deck, and black on the deck fittings. On paper label "50".
