A Group of Greenland Inuit on board HMS Discovery (1873)

A view, looking aft at the stern, of a group of inhabitants of Godhaven on board 'Discovery' (1873) while the ships were at Godhaven between 6 July and 15 July 1875. During this time the stores from 'Valorous' (1851) were transferred to the 'Alert' (1856) and 'Discovery'. The crew were allowed ashore to explore and relax. At the same time magnetic observations were made, geological and botanical samples collected.
