A view looking into Franklin Pierce Bay from the western end of Cape Prescott. 'Alert' (1856) and 'Discovery' (1873) attempted to leave Franklin Pierce Bay on 9 August. The two ships weighed anchor at about 7am and managed to advance a couple of miles before making fast to a floe close to Walrus Island at the northerly entrance to Franklin Pierce Bay.
