Starboard stern quarter view of 'Discovery' (1873) ashore in Discovery Harbour with grounded ice, looking northwest from Bellot Island. In the forenoon of 18 August 'Discovery' weighed anchor and joined 'Alert' (1856) off the breakwater, Bellot Island. As the tide fell the ship grounded, heeling to port. At 9.30 pm they weighed anchor again and proceeded under steam for the Western Entrance to the west of Bellot Island.
