Diary kept by Robert Gale, captain's steward on board HMS RATTLESNAKE on the scientific surveying cruise to Australia and New Guinea, between 1846 and 1850. Also includes a diary kept between 1847 and 1849; a notebook concerning a list of shells, stones etc and a sketchbook of coastal views.
