Journal of Private John Stephen Salmon, Royal Marine Light Infantry, while serving on the armoured cruiser HMS DUKE OF EDINBURGH (1904), covering the period 16 August 1914 to 13 January 1916. It also has an account of the events between 30 May and 3 June 1916 (the Battle of Jutland).

Salmon was born at Strood in Kent on 17 August 1890 and enlised in the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 23 April 1908. He died in the Maidstone registration district in 1972. His service record can be found under the reference ADM 159/126/16192 in The National Archives catalogue.
