Diaries of William Charles Reed, aboard the ship DORIS, EUROPA and ST GEORGE.

Three diaries kept on HMS DORIS by Petty Officer W. Reed covering the period 1914 to 1916 initally patrolling the Irish Coast and later in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean. The first diary is from 3 August 1914 to 31 May 1915 which includes the name of ships they come across such as on 10 February 1915 CITY OF NAPLES, WALTON HALL and BROADSTONE, at the end of every months records days at sea, days at the harbours, British and Foreign ships spoken to and number of warships met. The second diary is from 1 June 1915 to 15 December 1915 on HMS EUROPA and the third diary is dated 16 December 1915 to 1 April 1916 on HMS ST GEORGE.

Administrative / biographical background
William Charles Reed was born 30 January 1876 in Plymouth Devon before joineing the Navy he was a Trawler Boy, he joined the navy in 1891 and joined the The Royal Fleet Reserve in 1904.
