Diary kept by Alexander Loudoun as a passenger on board the OPAWA, 1885-1886.

Notebook containing a diary kept by Alexander Loudoun between 7 November 1885 and 17 February 1886. It records events during his passage from London to Wellington on the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd three-masted ship OPAWA (1876). A list of officers and passengers is included. Administrative / biographical background
Alexander Loudoun was born at Dumfries in 1862. He was the brother of Jessie Hossack Loudoun, who married Andrew Crawford, see the diary JOD/267. The diary of his voyage to New Zealand includes a reference to 'when Jessie and Andrew were here last year'. He appears to have travelled with his father Alexander Loudoun and brother John Turner Loudoun. He died at Napier in New Zealand in 1950.
