In 1806 Grenville became an enthusiastic supporter of plans to attack Spanish interests in South America. This manuscript, drawn by a Frenchman, was probably part of the intelligence gathering before the event. Although the popular uprising which expelled the British from Buenos Aires was seen as a humiliation, it achieved the policy objective of destabilizing the Spanish colonies as it gave impetus to Argentina's fight for independence.
